The Math Student: Maths Tutoring for All in Sydney

Hi all. My name is Sachinthaka Abeywardana (Sachin) and I am currently a
PhD Student
at University of Sydney.

The Math Student is my startup company with my wife Hiruni that is mainly targetting maths tutoring for Year 11, HSC, OC and Selective classes. We offer tutoring all the way upto 4 Unit Maths. We currently conduct our classes at Sydney University and Zetland.

I also maintain a YouTube page where I have put up free lectures on a range of topics including Mathematics, Finance and Programming.

My Guarantee

Here's what I will strive to achieve with your son or daughter. Getting 90+ in a maths exam is well within your reach. As long as you are willing to put in the hours and, if you are willing to go that far I will do my best to get you over the line.

Subjects

I offer tutoring in the following subjects:

Advanced Mathematics (2 Unit Maths)

Extension I Mathematics (3 Unit Maths)

Extension II Mathematics (4 Unit Maths)

1st year University Maths

Some 2nd and 3rd year Mathematics courses (Contact us for which subject we are able to accommodate for)

I personally do not tutor lower years, simply because I prefer to focus on HSC. However, I can refer you to good tutors who can. Click for class times and prices.

If I was to describe my expertise in terms of tutoring at least, I would say that I'm a 4 unit specialist as that is where I find the most challenging questions are. I am expecting both my current students to easily achieve 90++. This is not to say that I do not tutor other levels but, simply considering how hard it is, it's always a pleasure to try and teach/ communicate the true intricacies of some incredibly difficult mathematics. As far as a text book for this subject is concerned, I highly recommend Terry Lee's "Advanced Mathematics". Personally I have never seen such a comprehensive text book that covers all bases for 4 unit.

What others have had to say

"Sachin has been a fantastic help with my honours thesis. I came to him with very little knowledge of statistics and he has been really patient. He has dramatically improved my understanding of stats and has taken my thesis to knew heights. I would, and have, recommended his tutoring to other students" - Sarah Hilt.

"My daughter picked up on her GA and Mathematics skills solely due to some excellent coaching done by Sachin. Honest and Trustworthy ,the child is in capable hands. Cheers" - Sudhir Suvarna

"Sachin is a great tutor, in my experience with him he was very patient, explains concepts well and makes good use of different learning materials to suit different learning styles. Highly recommended."- Stephen Laureti

"It was great getting help from Sachin! He was willing to let me go at my own pace, but always knew which key areas needed targeting, and in the end he helped me get a great result." - Alexander Yip

I'm afraid at this stage that is all I can offer. Mathematics is my strongest background and skillset and it is what I'm most confident in teaching.

How many hours of maths tutoring is required

This depends on which level you are at. Roughly speaking for Four Unit 2 hours a week; for 2/3 unit 1 hour should suffice. For lower grades 30 minutes ought to be more than enough.
